Smoking/Drinking ages you skin?

(7 posts)
  1. since smoking and alcohol ages your skin, but it doesn't happen over night like people portray it. you have to smoke or drink for years til' it actually ages your skin in your later years. so whats the truth behind it??? Anything to remedy the skin aging???
Take Vivien Leigh for example: She smoked 4 packs. a day during Gone With The Wind and she drank also. She still looked gorgeous. The TB is what aged her skin.

  2. I'm not sure, some lotions help. I used this great face lotion once and I cannot find it again, I'll look for it here on the internet.

    Drink lots of water.

Try also quitting smoking and drinking.

  3. Actors and actresses are always made up to cover up any flaws, they are paid to do so, they do not look like that when you meet them in person

also, the damage happens alot faster than you think

Yes, it does age your skin.

You may not notice it yourself.

    Try quitting those bad habits.

It ruins your body inside and out, in the long run.

Yes smoking and alcohol will age your skin. So will the sun, drugs, and bad weather.
Vivien Leigh may have had very good skin that withstood the abuse better than others. She still would have looked better if she had not smoked and drank.
As far as aging your skin I would say that the sun and smoking are about the worst. Sun rays can break down and destroy practically everything they touch. If you don't think so you should live in Phoenix and see how fast things left in the sun fall apart and disintegrate. Smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict which limits the flow of blood to the skin cells (and all other kinds of cells too).
I also had a an aunt who was a long term drug addicts. When she was young she looked as good as any movie star but she looked like a wreck in her 50's. That simply wouldn't have happened if she had not been a drug addict.
Skin will age no matter what you do. However, avoiding the sun, smoke, drugs, alcohol, and too cold and too hot weather as much as possible will help your skin stay youthful looking longer. Having good genes will help too. If your parents had good skin than the chances are that you will too. Also, drinking an adequate amount of water daily and applying good cremes and lotions will help your skin stay moist and soft.

"oxidative stress" is what causes aging in people who drink/smoke... The metabolization of toxins releases free radicals into the blood which can trash your tissues.

People metabolize alcohol, and the toxins from smoke differently. People's nutrition also varies quite a lot, and nutrition is the key to controlling oxidative stress.

Some folks can drink/smoke like movie stars their whole lives and live to a ripe old age. Others can do everything right and be sickly their whole life and die young.

It proves God has a sense of humor.
