Scaphoid fractures of the wrist should be taken very seriously. These fractures often result in vascular damage to the scaphoid bone which prevents the fracture from ever healing and leads to avascular necrosis of the scaphoid bone (death of the bone) - and that results in permanent pain and dysfunction.

    Best wishes and good luck.

Scaphoid Fractures are hard to identify on Xray. Generally if an exam shows tenderness over this bone, they treat the injury as a fracture and cast for approximately 3wks and then re-xray.
