It is probably because of a flu infection but you wont know till you get it checked by a doctor - few years ago I had one on my neck and doctor thought it was a cyst but I had to undergo test at hospital, scans, fine needle biopsy and they were looking for cancer but all came back negative, a final scan showed under active thyroid gland.

swollen lymph nodes in neck?

It is normal to have swollen & inflamed lymph nodes when you have been infected by a virus or bacteria. This is just your body and immune system reacting by stimulating the production of t-cells to help combat foreign invaders that have entered the body. you may have a low-grade fever that you may not have detected. The fact that you say you are coughing and have a stuffy nose indicates that you are symptomatic for the flu or a cold. This is a healthy body reaction and nothing to be concerned over. When your symptoms start to fade away you will also notice that your lymph nodes have decreased in size. However, you may still notice a slight or small nodule, but that is because once a lymph node has been inflamed they will never return to their original size. This difference is so small you may not even recognize it. If you begin to develop a high fever(anything over 101 degrees) you should be seen by a physician.
