I got my industrial piercing 2 days ago. I wasn't in a significant amount of pain on the day I got it, or the day after that although it was slightly red, swollen, and bleeding both days. Today, however, it has been throbbing painfully and looks slightly more swollen. There is no pus or discharge coming out of the holes, however, and it's only mildly red. My dad said that it's not infected and this is a normal part of the healing process. I'm a little skeptical though; does anyone else have any input?

Your father is quite right. It is part of the healing process. Redness, swelling, pain, and heat are normal for up to five or six days with a cartilage piercing. Continue to clean your piercing for the next few weeks with soap and water. If they provided you with a cleaning substance, use that as well. Clean it only twice a day, as to decrease the amount of irritation your piercing is exposed to. Also, if you have been messing with it or sleeping on that side of your head, stop. Irritation prolongs the healing process. If you sleep on it, you are putting pressure on the area. Remember that it takes cartilage piercings longer to heal. They also hurt for a longer period of time. However, they should not remain swollen and red for any longer than a week if you are taking care of it properly.
Good luck :)

I got my industrial a little over a month ago and mine did the same thing yours did and it went away within a couple days. It'll be red and swollen for a bout 3 days to a week(that's about how long mine was). Don't worry it's normal.
