Ive got off of my Oxycontin several times, im only on 20 mg once a day the 12 hr ones, it takes about 3 days cold turkey, and because i don't abuse them, ive never had a problem getting off them, i have a bad spine injury, but i don't like taking these things all the time, now the times ive stopped i got the mild flu type symptoms, and the diarrhea, after 3 days i was fine, but still im in my late 50s and i don't like being sick even for 3 days, so this is my plan cut them in half for 3 days, after 3 days cut the 20mg pill into 4 Th's, one 20 mg pill will then last 4 days, after 4 days i stop. has anyone tried this?

I haven't had to get off oxycontin but I have gotten off of epilepsy drugs after over 40 years of being on them. I had reason to believe that the seizure activity was due to pains I was having in my back and neck which I had injured by falling out of a car as a child. The dr.'s didn't want to believe me, they wanted me to stay on the pills. After I figured that I had removed as much of the pain as possible I tapered off of the pills and haven't had a problem since. It has only been a few weeks but I feel great. The reason for all this explanation is to let you know that back pain, no matter how long you have had it, can be gotten rid of. Here is what I did to release the muscles which were holding the pain in on me:
    Back:
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but remain there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
If you might need some help in your neck area contact me and I will pass that along as well.

Yes you need to wean yourself off of them. Because the flu symptoms that you have are withdrawl . You may need to take 1/2 for maybe 7-10 days. Then go to cutting one into 4th's for a few weeks then you should be fine. Hope this helps

Playing the 'cut in half game' may work for some, but this narcotic is Very powerful. Just quit and let those 3 days go by. You could always go to your doctor and they will give you something weaker, but your opiate receptors will still be happy and you will be addicted to something.
I have chronic pain and Hate taking opiates. So, a while back I did over 100 hours of research on Kratom- BAM!!! This acts on the Mu, Delta, and Kappa recdeptors as an opiate would, but w/out those harsh withdrawal periods...
Sometimes we have to take it like a man/woman though...

The less you take the better.
But remember Oxycontin is abused by people breaking the seal, so it absorbes quickly giving you heroin like effects.
So I don't think physically cutting them in half - just take less!
Taking less is always a good idea.
See a Chiropractor for 10-12 treatments - they can often help people get off of pills from debilitating pain.
Don't just blindly do whatever your Orthopeed told you to do - they often have no solutions at all.
