My 3 y/o has a sore throat & has been coughing since this morning. We're snowed in & I'm out of children's cough medicine. So I need some home remedies that are guaranteed to work. Any suggestions? Also, I heard that honey and luke warm water is a good throat calmer. True or False?

A sore throat is an infection that can be either viral or bacterial. It is most commonly caused by a contagious viral infection (such as the flu, cold or mononucleosis), although more serious throat infections can be caused by a bacterial infection (such as strep, mycoplasma or hemophilus). Bacterial sore throats respond well to antibiotics while viral infections do not. For viral infections, there are many natural remedies that you can take to cure a sore throat. Some of these folk remedies work within an hour or two, others take effect overnight.
An old home remedy for sore throats is a tea made with lemon, apple cider vinegar, cayenne, and honey.
It is made by adding one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper, the juice of 1/4 lemon, and one teaspoon of honey to a cup of hot water. Stir.
Typically, up to four cups a day is suggested.
If symptoms persist please consult a doctor

We use honey and lemon juice mixed together. But honey should not be given to small children.I can
t remember if they say its up to 2 years old or 3.You may be able to look it up on internet. If you do use it,use only a teaspoon full every hour or so.Posted 2 years ago # -

my mom makes us drink black tea without sugar or milk or anything, but for a child you can give honey with black pepper on top and let him eat it with his fingers. that should do the trick :)
and you can give honey to children, just not a whoooole bunch, 2 or 3 teaspoons is fine
