What are the chances of me being anemic?

(2 posts)
  1. I asked a questions about how when my mother was pregnant with me, she craved ice. I crave ice (but not pregnant), and someone said I could be anemic. A little research on this, and I found that I have most of the symptoms:

"Anemia can make you feel tired, fatigued, weak, dizzy, irritable, short of breath or depressed. With anemia, you may also have pale skin, brittle nails, chest pain, a coldness in your hands or feet, or an irregular heartbeat. Some people with anemia also have a desire to eat ice or other peculiar things, experience sexual dysfunction, or have trouble concentrating or performing mental tasks.'

All of those except sexual dysfunction, brittle nails, pale skin (my skin is a little tan), but other than that I have all of the symptoms. I am taking a doctor's visit this weekend, but I was wondering how likely it is that I'm anemic?
I also have random growth spurts, and always want to chew things.

It's very likely that you are iron anemic. A simple blood test will show this, and the doc will put on iron supplements for awhile. Be sure to ask how long you have to take them. When they start working after a couple weeks, they cause really dark, almost black poop. Nothing to worry about! It just means they're working!
Best of luck to you! =)

  3. Ask your Dr. for a COMPLETE blood panel work-up which includes everything and addinitonally identifies::

    1) Vitamin B12 (this will identify several things immediately including anemia) If low you take injections and prescribed B12 pills. I just started.

    2) Thyroid

    3) Hemoglobin

    4) Diabetes (Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia)

--you may also want to ask them to test you for ADHD or ADD. Sometimes as we grow chemicals can get out of whack and may need a little fine tuning. When all these things add up can cause depression, loss of energy, major mood swings-a lot of problems.

Ask your mom if there is a history of depression in your family. Ask your father this too. Depression is polygenetic.

Include everything you can think of with this. I suffered from a lot of stuff that could have been corrected had I only sought testing. I ended up shooting myself 9 years ago after major depression. It was then I learned about the stuff I've included in my note to you. God speed Mac!

Good luck, I'll cross my fingers for you & let me know how you are. Feel free to connect anytime. This can be serious.

    kindest regards,

    Jerry
