What are the common causes of coughing up blood?

    My girlfriend woke up coughing blood this morning. She has emphysema and asthma but decided she should just start using her inhaler more. We don't really have money for a doctor or anything, I'm just wondering how bad that is?

    walking pneumonia, you will get sick enough to go to DR. Is there a free clinic around?
    also throat cancer. ect, or inhaling a nose bleed and coughing it back up. here is a good sight to look into.
