The most common risk/side effects are dry eye and many post Lasik patients need reading glasses. Other risks/side effects include, but are not limited to. night blindness, seeing halos and star-bursts and the worst side effect of Lasik surgery is vision loss, including blindness. Most side effects of Lasik are permanent and irreversible. Lasik is irreversible. LASIK or Refractive Vision Correction surgery has only been in use for a little over ten year, therefore long term risks and complications are unknown.
Most people experience satisfactory to excellent post surgical results with an increase in visual acuity to between 20/20 to 20/40. However, there is a small percentage (about 5%) who experience irreversible side effects which often cause depression and loss of quality of life issues. Anyone committing to this surgery must be prepared to accept these risks. See "Sources" below for additional information on Lasik procedures and side effects
