    Defibrillators. Ha, was studying this in Physics a couple of days ago ;)

    Defibrillator paddles. They are rubbed together to spread the conduction gel evenly across the surface. (You never see them put the gel on on TV--only do the rubbing--like it appears magically). Now days most monitors use big sticky hands-free pads, so you don't have to be so close to the patient when you shock them.
