Step 1Sit up straight
Studies have shown that slouching while sitting can raise your blood pressure by 15% or more. When you slouch, your blood does not flow easily and your heart has to work harder to circulate blood to all parts of your body. To sit properly while you work, pick a chair with a firm back that is low enough so that your feet rest on the floor. Then place a small rolled up towel in the small of your back to keep your posture correct. Stretch at least once an hour and take a deep breath as deep breathing exercises have been shown to lower blood pressure in stressed adults.

Hi Lookat,
You don't say whether your doctor put you on medication after getting this reading. By itself, one reading of 150/89 doesn't tell you whether you have high blood pressure. But if you're getting readings around 136/85, you're getting close. That's in the pre-hypertension stage. That means you have to focus on bringing down your pressure or risk high blood pressure.
It's normal for your reading to increase when you're anxious or stressed, like when you visit the doctor. Exercise can also temporarily raise your pressure. Things like smoking, being overweight, and eating a poor diet can keep your pressure elevated.
One of the most important things you can do for yourself is adopt the DASH diet eating plan, or something close to it. This means eating fresh and lean and giving up your salt shaker and fast foods if you're too friendly with them. You can download the DASH plan for free online. It's not a hard plan to follow. It lets you eat lots of foods and plenty of it. It's working for me and some of my friends. We have not had to go on medication and our pressure has dropped. It's not normal yet, but it is in a lower pre-hypertension stage.
Also, consider getting a blood pressure monitor for yourself at your local pharmacy and monitor your own pressure everyday. This will tell you what types of habits and what time of day tend to increase your pressure reading. Be proactive and you'll gain control over your blood pressure.
