What have you tried for psoriasis for face and neck? What did you like? Side-effects?

I have SEVERE psoriasis on my scalp. I've had it for years. It gets so bad that my hair will clump/glue to my scalp. It bleeds. Now it has spread to my face and neck. I can exfoliate it there, and it just looks like a darkened patch of skin. I can somewhat cover it with a heavy foundation. Still itches like heck. The only thing that has worked for me lately is coloring or perming my hair. It will bring tears to my eyes, but it almost seems to "burn it off". After all the scabs (sorry about being gross) fall off, I have very little itching for at least a week.

I have tried diprolene on my scalp. It worked wonders, but came right back after I stopped. I stopped because I absorbed so much of the medication that I got a bloody nose multiple times a day, stopped having my cycle for 6 months, and lost chucks or hair. Then I tried a vitamin A cream the consistency of Vaseline. That didn't work well, and was hellish to get out of my hair. Hydro-cortisone cream doesn't work at all. If I get some on my arms, a good sunburn usually takes care of it. Unless I shave my head, that's not gonna work.

Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated.

Protopic (ointment) and Dovonex (cream) were the safest and most effective for my face and neck prior to phototherapy. I have severe psoriasis. The only problem is these creams and ointments only control psoriasis for a day or two and need to be used again. Now I use a full body phototherapy unit which is covered by insurance ( http://phototherapystore.com ) and LCD 20% in Aquaphor Ointment which is prescribed by my dermatologist. I is also known as Coal Tar Solution 20 Percent in Aquaphor Ointment, and is safe. It is like many tar products seen in stores or Amazon.com but is stronger since it is by prescription.

Have you tried changing your diet? I'm sure you've heard the phrase, "you are what you eat" and it's quite true! You could be charging your body up with junk and not consuming enough of the good stuff.

Stop eating anything that is processed or things like pre-packed salad leaves that are caked in preservatives, half that stuff is 3 weeks old which is why it goes off so fast once you open it. If you do have it, at least wash it first! Make sure you include flax seed, green leafy vegetables and cold water fish in your diet.

I followed a simple plan that practically eliminated psoriasis for me and I rarely have any flare-ups these days. Not saying it would work for you as it won't for everyone but you should at least take a look and make your own decision.

If you are interested in this plan and other info about diet and treatments for psoriasis, try the link below. Hope that helps and good luck!
