Mucinex or Robitussin is best for getting that phlegm loosened up. Drinking lots of water helps too. The headache and general soreness are commonly seen in flu and other viral infections. Rest and fluids is best medicine. If sore throat or fever or worsening of current symptoms occur, I would consult your physician for treatment. I'm a clinical pharmacist.

My throat was slightly scratchy/tight for about 5 days. Now, this morning, I have the deep crackle, green drainage coming up, and just from coughing the initial drainage, my throat feels like it will not cough again. (Sharp pain.) Also, I have a dull headache and a general soreness all over.

There is no congestion in my head and nothing to speak of in my nose. I am very healthy, usually, do not smoke or drink. I have a one year-old, plus work and need something that will knock this out.

If you are a Doctor or Pharmacist, all the better.

    Thanks in advance!

Mucinex is really good. Now if medicines don't knock you out (they don't me usually), I use a little Robitussin night time cough and cold, just a small sip ever now and then, not full dose's, between the 2 i'm 10-8 and functioning.
Just fyi, Robitussion will put you out like a light, so experiment when you can possiblily sleep.
