What is your attitude toward your diabetes?

I think it seems like the worst thing that could ever happen to you at first, but after only a couple of months, it's just part of your daily routine. You wake up, take medicine (or shots), eat, and get on with your day. Not much has to change, in the long run.

I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 15 years. I was in my 20's when I was diagnosed and already had a family. I didn't realize it until just a few years ago that I had been depressed for many years. It's important to realize that it's not the end of the world. If you take care of yourself and make sure to check your glucose levels you can live a "normal" life. If you can, join a support group and arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can.

For me, it's just another part of the day like brushing your teeth or feeding the dog.

At first when i was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, i felt very resentful that i had the condition. I was only 19 at the time and thought it would really affect my social life and now being the age of 21, i can honestly say that it hasnt. My social life is really good and i can participate in almost all the activities that my friends can, all be it with a little extra care needed (regular blood sugar testing). The only issue that really gets to me is the regular tests and injections that i need to take as i often feel like people are staring at me or judging me, but on the other hand, the regular testing at the hospital ensures that i have a much better perspective and attitude towards keeping myself healthy.

It was only a year ago since I found out I was diabetic. It was very hard on me and also my family. I'm still pretty young after all. At first diabetes may seem like the worst thing ever, but it certainly is not. Personally, I hate it when people think they know everything about diabetes when obviously they dont. Thats the only problem I have with Type 1 Diabetes. Other than that, stay strong and think of the good stuff! After all, diabetes is just a bump in the road that can happen to anyone.

BTW, I would honestly consider getting a pump after you have been a diabetic for more than a year, pumps are a life saver and so much more easier ;)

It might seem strange, but I was actually glad when I found out I am diabetic.

    Let me explain.
I was always tired, depressed, ready to blame everything and everybody for everything and anything that went wrong in my life. I was ready to commit suicide.

This was completely the opposite of whom I really am..

When I got diagnosed, my first reaction was yippee!!! Now I know what is wrong with me and now I can do something about it.

Some doubts and worries did set in a bit later, but due to my positive first reaction and approach it did not last long.
