What to do about Flem, Sinuses, Mucus Build up and Nasal Congestion?

(2 posts)
  1. I'm not sure what I have but every winter I get it for 3-5 months. Basically I get mucus that runs down my throat and I constantly have to drink and swallow and I sometimes have to cough to clear my throat. When I work out, it's a little tough to breath through my nose and I have to constantly blow my nose. Again, this usually lasts 3-5 months each year and is disruptive to my breathing pattern when working out.

What can I do or take to help clear things up?

You have an allergy. Antihistamines will dry you up. I am sensitive to cedar which is thru the winter like you describe. I like allegra180 - it is prescription and has generic.the 180 is 24hour time release and you can also add the over the counter ones I am recommending if you still need a little more relief. If you want to use over the counter walmart has their own version of sudafed which is good for daytime and chlortabs for nighttime. the sufedrine 12hour has pseudo ephedrine so it will hop you up a little and might be hard to sleep so that is why I say chlortabs at night- chlortabs have the same active ingredient as coracidin. It will not make you drowsy but will also not hop you up. the generics are much cheaper. They will help keep your sinuses dry and avoid all that drainage. If the drainage is getting infected like yellow or green you can dry out your nose and use a q-tip to rub some neosporin(generic) around in your nose to help with that.
