No offence, but wouldn't the dentist know best?
He'd say if he needed all his adult teeth or not.

my son is 8 and a dentist thru school saw him and says he may need braces but he only has 6 adult adult teeth, don't you need all adult teeth to determine something like that?
i dont think so..
ask an orthodontic (:
Yes, also he has to have in his 12 year molars.
If he has the first set of molars, and the dentist can see that something is wrong, getting a 'mini-set' of braces can head off really big problems. These would anchor the molars with the front adult teeth, giving the 'side' adult teeth plenty of room so they don't come in crooked.
Kids who go through braces this way *may* have to get braces a second time when all of their adult teeth come in, but the second round of treatment will be for a shorter time and the teeth won't have to be moved as far (meaning less time/pain/money.)
The school dentist is probably looking at the arch or the way his teeth set together. If he has problems with that NOW, then these problems will only get worse as the larger adult teeth come in.
