My mom prefers using hydrogen peroxide, and so do I...but after looking up info about getting my cartilage pierced, every site freaked out at the prospect of using HP on the piercing site for after-care They all recommended alcohol or hospital-grade saline. So, why is alcohol better than hydrogen peroxide?

HP stings and burns, also produces blisters in some cases. alcohol is more natural, still volatile (same as gas line antifreeze) but it won't hurt as much, and is used in hospitals.

I'm not sure where he got that answer but he needs to do some research. Alcohol will burn and sting with use on open skin, hydrogen peroxide does not, it just foams. However, in recent years it has been advised against using the hydrogen peroxide as it can break down the skin especially open areas of skin and a piercing would be one. Stick with what they tell you.
