Many people have to told me you have to get your eyes examined to wear color contacts because everyone has a different curve to their eye. But, I have noticed if you want to buy Freshlook Colorblend contacts they all come in 8.3 curve. So whats the point of getting your eyes examed for color contacts?

When you put contacts on your eyes, you are depriving them of oxygen. The FDA considers contact lenses a drug, you need to have them fit and your eye health monitored yearly by an eye doctor. In fact, you should be getting eye exams every 2 years if you are under 40 anyways (and every year if you are over 40) just to make sure that your eyes are healthy.

As previously described, contact lenses are regulated by the FDA. So technically it must be prescribed by an eye doctor or someone who is certified to do so. You are correct in saying that some lenses only come in one base curve. However, just because it only comes in that base curve doesn't mean it will fit on your eye properly. That is the purpose of the eye examination. To make sure that the lens will fit properly on the eye. You will not be able to make the judgment alone based on how you feel. As these lenses if used improperly and not examined can lead to complications to your eye health. And worse off, it can blind you.
