I'm a big fan of the author David Sedaris, and when I first began to read his books, I realized how much in common with him I have. Most notably, his childhood problem with twitches and ticks. I too, suffer from involuntary actions, occasionally. Some times I have move my eyes in a certain direction repetitively, or I have to wiggle my nose so many times. It's actually quite taxing, despite what it sounds like.
In his books, David Sedaris advocates his smoking privileges because he says that when he lights up a cigarette, all of his ticks, and the anxiety that comes with them, suddenly vanishes.
And now I, at the age of 18, have began smoking Shisha, which is another form of tobacco. I also notice a difference in the way it makes my body behave, and plan on continuing smoking shisha. It's like the tics have vanished.
So why is it that tobacco products help certain people with twitches, also..... what would you diagnose my condition?

Why does tobacco help with dealing with twitches?

There could be something pressing on your spine that you might want checked (a simple x-ray could show). Tobacco is not the answer however. It is probably just stunting your nerves as tobacco is pretty harmful for your body. Even though it seems like it is helping today, it might just hurt you long term. I am glad you found someone to relate to but i think it is a bit early to rely on Shisha as your only remedy. I hope you start feeling less twitchy soon. :)

oh man, your diagnosis is anxiety. but seriously, i can't tell you how serious of a disease it is, i just got back from the doctor today about it, it has caused me SO many problems over the past 10 years. I really think you need to see a doctor about the anxiety and the ticks before you start self-medicating you know? we all do it, but it's really the best option to make sure nothing is wrong that could be causing the ticks.
for one thing smoking tobacco stimulates the reward center, i'm sure you know this but that's why people who are anxious smoke, it's simple, you really do feel a LOT calmer when you have a cigarette, even me i don't smoke but sometimes when i'm too uppity i just think DAMN a smoke would be nice right about now ahahaha, it's just a common fact it's a mood stabiliser. your reward center is like mmmmmn when you have tobacco, i can't be bothered going into the chemical reasons but yeah, anxiety is one of THE worst things to have so please go at least get it check out, and if you don't like what the doctor has to say, go with your own thing. it's not about the bad health effects of smoking i honesty don't care about that, but i just know for a fact that mental health is something that is SOOOOOO detrimental if you try and ignore it, it's the fucking worst hahaha, sorry for swearing, i hope things go cool for you, and if they don't, learn to blow smoke rings ;P
