Why or how does our bladder fill when we sleep?

The bladder fills when asleep just as it does when awake. The heart beats, blood flows, wastes get carried around, then left in the bladder or colon. The bladder fills. BUT, the muscles we use to empty the bladder are all relaxed, so the bladder won't empty while we're asleep. The SECOND we wake up, however, is a different story. Then we REALLY have to go. We've got a whole night's worth of wastes to get rid of. So don't press the snooze button, because immediately before you fall asleep again, the muscles holding everything IN relax, and you're gonna wet the bed. That's why you should go just before going to bed at night.

The muscles and organs there are involuntary, so as long as you are alive, the urinary system will keep functioning.

The same way it fills when we are awake. From the time you drink a liquid it takes about 30 minutes for the bladder to fill. Muscles work together allowing the bladder to store the urine.
When you are asleep, your body doesn't (Usually) wake you up to tell you it's time to go to the bathroom unless it is urgent. Bladder works day and night. Only we hold our urine when we are sleeping.
