    No evidence for it -

There is evidence that taking some vitamins can be harmful to some folks over time...

So guess what I suggest? Yeah....9-11 servings of fruits and vegetables, 6-12 servings of whole grains...There are 100,000 health promoting compounds in a single tomato...imagine whats in the rest of the produce department :)

    No, absolutely not.

Medical journals do not 'recommend' anything. If you have an unusual diet, are an alcoholic or otherwise nutritionally deficient, then extra vitamins may help to prevent illness.

Otherwise, it's a complete waste of time.

All of these are essential nutrients that tend to be inadequate in most people's diets. There is a large and growing body of scientific evidence that these nutrients play critical roles in the prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, neurodegenerative diseases, etc. Even the Journal of the American Medical Association (no friend to nutritional science) has recommended a daily multi-vitamin supplement for all American adults.

  4. Absolutely! There is a book called Homocysteine - the best single indicator of whether you live long or die young! (link below) This amino acid in the blood - homocysteine - is the crystal ball of blood tests. A healthy level is 6.3umol/L. If this level is high, this acid is toxic to the body and causes over 100 medical conditions and is the leading cause of heart attack and stroke. Lowering this level to normal shows 49% reduced risk of death from all causes! Vitamin B6, B12 and folate are essential to lower this level so yes B vitamins will help you live longer.

Also, make sure your diet is high in enzymes as you cannot absorb vitamins and minerals or transports the nutrients to every cell in the body. Enzymes are only activated in water, so drink plenty. Low enzyme levels is the root cause of most diseases...including cancer. There are digestive enzymes and systematic enzymes supplements (from health food stores) or you can increase raw foods in the diet (cooked foods have no digestive enzymes).

The Kingdom of Hunza live up to 140 years of age, have never had any incidence of cancer, heart disease, any disease for that matter, no arthritis and every hunzakut has 20-20 vision. Their diet is high in digestive enzymes (raw foods only), they eat a high amount of B17 (this vitamin is banned O_o but is available at the supermarket in fruit seeds, most notably apricot seeds), all the essential vitamins and minerals and their food is completely natural, containing no chemical additives whatsoever.

Vitamin B12 is essential to energy..i know from experience...i slept up to 16 hours a day when very deficient.

No evidence for that, and no plausibility either.

Vitamins are only likely to be of benefit if you have a deficiency, and if you look at 'Doctor' J's links you will see that supported.

Ignore the answer about the Hunza. There is no good evidence to support the claim, like birth records, and certainly no confirming epidemilogical data is available. There is no such thing as Vitamin 17 - that is a marketing name given to amygdalin, which is extracted from the apricot kernel, and it has been shown to be ineffective against cancer.

    From Wiki:
"Beta-glucosidase, one of the enzymes that catalyzes the release of the cyanide from amygdalin, is present in human small intestine and in a variety of common foods. This leads to an unpredictable and potentially lethal toxicity when amygdalin or laetrile is taken orally."

    Hope this helps.

After a medical check up if deficiency in the physical nutrients value is found you can go for supplements.

If you can change your diet into fruits and salads all deficiencies will go out. In that case no need of an additional multivitamain supplement.
