Fasting has many benefits, but it's not necessary that your boyfriend start out with such a strict fast.
Drinking water only should only be done for folks who have experience juice fasting.
I suggest he buys a nice juicer like a GREENSTAR or a hurom http://www.slowjuicer.com/
He could drink only liquids for his fast, but he'd be getting all his vitamins with the carrot/apple juice and other fresh juices.

Unless your boyfriend is currently eating lead or something else poisonous, fasting will not be healthy for him.

It sounds like a great idea, and on first glance it seems great, but unless you are eating paint chips, fasting is not going to cleanse anything out. Your kidneys and liver do their job whatever you eat. If you eat poisons (like alcohol), it makes it harder for your liver to filter out other bad things because your liver gets overloaded, but if you eat regular food, your liver does a fine job.

God does not command fasting for asthma, but I went to medical school, not divinityschool.

The idea that a fast would clear up an infection is not medically realistic. People believe whatever they want, and pretty soon your boyfriend might start hearing the voice of God as he becomes increasingly delusional.

Your body is naturally self-cleaning. Give your organs the energy they need to do that cleaning. Don't eat toxins, but eat food.

Why will your boyfriend become delusional? The body has a few mechanisms for creating blood sugar from stored chemicals when you don't eat food. Gluconeogenesis creates sugar from stores in the liver and from fat (which your boyfriend does not have much of), but this creates ketones as a side effect. The ketones are bad for your body, and your liver will be kept occupied trying to filter them out. The ketones will give your boyfriend's breath a distinct odor as he goes into ketoacidosis, and that shift will make it hard for his brain to work properly. Besides the stress this will put on his body, he may very likely become delusional or unconscious as ketoacidosis progresses. This will disrupt his heart rhythm, and this is potentially fatal. If be becomes unconscious, he will need an ambulance.
